Grad students in the doctoral program are required to their complete PhD theses. Although there is a required class in the course, this is a discussion class for the dissertation with a supervisor. Thus, students does not necessarily have to come to the university; they can discuss with supervisors online. There are obligations for finishing the doctoral course as below:Research paper I: This is a thesis that should be submitted in the first year of the course. Students need to clear reviewing and interview. This should be part of PhD thesis.Research paper II: This is a thesis that should be submitted in the second year of the course. Students are required to present core data and ideas for PhD dissertation in this thesis. If students clear reviewing and interview regarding this thesis, they can be PhD candidates.PhD dissertation: This is a final dissertation submitted by PhD candidates. Author of the dissertation will receive PhD after reviewing and defense.In the Graduate School of Humanities and Human Sciences Hokkaido University, there is a special examination and favorable treatment of tuition and the period of school attendance for full-time workers.
